Football and Crypto: What the Data Says
To coincide with the Outcomes Market launch, OKX published OKX Insights #005: The Beautiful Game, a survey of 2,000 football fans who trade cryptocurrency. Key findings:
Football is the sport crypto traders identify with most: 56% of respondents associate football with cryptocurrency over any other sport, nearly three times the share who said esports (19.6%).
84% of respondents said the instincts that make someone a strong crypto trader, including pattern recognition, probabilistic thinking, and composure under pressure, overlap with calling football outcomes.
45% said their World Cup outcome calls would likely outperform their crypto trading performance over the same time period.
Asked whether they would rather receive 1 BTC or see their favorite team win the World Cup, 76% chose Bitcoin. 24% chose the trophy.
About a quarter of respondents (23%) said that seeing their team eliminated would upset them more than losing 20% of their portfolio.
